1st class at a Czech EuroCity
10th day of my InterRail Journey: A visit in Brno, Czech Republic. A Czech EuroCity is waiting for me in Vienna.
The 1st class coach of the Czech train was one of the cosy ones. No big tables, only folding tables in the back of the seats.
Power outlets were only at a few of the seats available. I liked the train though as there was a great dining car with Czech specialities at the next coach.
1st class of the Frecciargento
Inside the 1st class of the Italian high-speed train Frecciargento. It offers large tables which I generally prefer. What are your experiences about working on tables in trains?

The ‘Brezel’ Lady on the ICE
A detail I really love: On my way from Hamburg to Munich a lady boarded the ICE and sold Brezel until she left the train at the next station. I was told in summer they are selling ice cream instead. Nice idea, isn’t it? Is there a similar service in your region too? More…
A cozy IC instead of a busy ICE
After a relaxing hour at the SBB Lounge in Zurich I wanted to go to Koblenz. Shocking! Instead of the announced German ICE a Swiss IC was awaiting me. The outcome: No power outlets for working on computer but cozy upholstered armchairs for reading a book. More…
On the Albula Railway
The Albula Railway links Thusis with St Moritz in Graubünden, Switzerland. Though I had to pay an extra fee, taking the dome car was a good decision.
ICE family at Munich Central Station
Before entering the Eurocity to Bregenz I came across these two generations of the great ICE trains. Reminds a bit of father (ICE 2) and daughter (ICE T), doesn’t it? More…
‘Train Art’ in Maribor
I was surprised how many Slovenian trains were painted like this one. It reminded me on street art but for obviously reason I’d call this train art. More…
How to transport a railway switch
Today I came across a train that transported railway switches. It was interesting to see what kind of specialized carriages are used for this extra-wide cargo. More…
VT 10 of the GKB Railways
Memories! Sometimes I come across these red trains of the GKB Railways in Styria. When I was a child I used to take these railbuses to see my grandmother. Actually, they were the first trains I ever took.
Pöstlingberg Railway in Linz
The Pöstlingberg Railway (Pöstlingbergbahn) links the main square of Linz with the Pöstling Hill (Pöstlingberg) which offers a great view of the city. The Pöstlingbergbahn is known as one of the world’s steepest adhesion-only railways.
