Inside Hauptbahnhof Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt Central Station) there are two small rooms showing information about a railway line project between Graz and Klagenfurt generally known as Koralmbahn (Koralm Railway). The focus is on the Carinthian part of the line between Lavanttal and Klagenfurt.
Adventmarkt at Lemoniberg, Vienna
Right behind the main entrance of the hospital Otto-Wagner-Spital there is a small Christmas market located. As the hospital is built in the style of Art Nouveau this market is a gem for people who are interested in this special period of architecture.
Design-Weihnachtsmarkt at Looshaus, Vienna
This weekend I discovered a Christmas market in the basement of an amazing building in the middle of Vienna. The building was designed by Adolph Loos and is a gem for all people interested in architecture. The market (which is opened on weekends only) is focused on design and surprised me with two products: Phone covers made of water-resistant paper and travel reports as a graphic novel!
Weihnachtsmarkt at Schloss Schönbrunn, Vienna
The Kultur- und Weihnachtsmarkt Schloss Schönbrunn is situated at the Ehrenhof (Cour d’honneur) of Schloss Schönbrunn (Schonbrunn Palace). I was especially impressed by the splendid setting, the lively concerts on a stage in the middle of the Christmas market and the offered goods which varied from Hungarian shadow theatres made of paper to incense smokers made at the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Germany.
Adventmarkt at the Karlskirche, Vienna
The Adventmarkt at the Karlskirche is a very special one. Nearly every hut offers products made by artists or craftsmen. It was much fun to walk along the stands listening to the shopkeepers hammering and polishing their items.
Sundial at Festung Hohensalzburg
This sundial is situated at the St George’s Chapel of Hohensalzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg). It shows the emblems of the Archbishopric of Salzburg and Archbishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg. The original sundial was created in the 16th century but today one can see a kind of reconstruction built in 2001.
Baking bread in Rauris
While writing this post I am nibbling at a slice of bread which I actually made by myself! At a farm at the Kalchkendl Alm, an alp named Kalchkendl located in Rauris Valley, I had the chance to bake bread the first time. I took this lesson at a class named Schule am Berg, guided by Roswitha Huber.
Weihnachtsmarkt at Wilhelminenberg, Vienna
At the rear of the Austria Trend Hotel Schloss Wilhelminenberg I discovered a small Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) with two details which made the place remarkable for me. The Christmas market located at one of the hills north-west of the city offers a fine view of Vienna’s outskirts. Besides that children have much fun skating on an ice rink situated at this place high over Vienna.
Kunsthandwerksmarkt at Am Hof, Vienna
The Kunsthandwerksmarkt am Hof is located at a place in the centre of Vienna. Actually there is a mix of two Christmas markets there. One half is selling the general mix of food, artwork and toys. Another half is a compilation of craftspeople selling their specialized works.of art.
Altwiener Christkindlmarkt in Vienna
The Altwiener Christkindlmarkt, a Christmas market next to an old abbey offers the longest crib of Austria. By the way one can combine the visit of this market with a Christmas market just opposite the street which offers products provided by organic farmers.
