There are many cities with preserved city walls. Modern cities surrounded by an equally well-preserved moat are rarer. A fine example of such a combination forms the city wall and moat of Friesach, a place in the Austrian state of Carinthia.

Before I joined a guided tour through the oldest city of Carinthia I had a typical dish of Carinthia. Its name is Kasnudeln. This is a thinly rolled noodle dough that is shaped to a pocket filled with quark. In general, it is spiced with mint and chervil.
